The ECHA website is like a library

The ECHA website is an awesome repository of chemical data, but a lot of people don’t seem to understand that ECHA is a library, not an encyclopaedia.

What I mean by that is ECHA don’t write most of the chemical information, they simply store it and allow people to search it. They don’t perform the QC checks on every single bit of information that you’d get in a chemical handbook or encyclopaedia.

So just because something’s published at ECHA, doesn’t mean that it’s correct, or accurate, or has the status of some kind of unbending eternal Truth.

And there are lots of nooks and crannies in the ECHA library, so don’t just look at the first classification you come to and use that, it may not be the one you need. echa #chemicals #data #information
