CLP Mastery has been designed to give you, as someone with responsibility in your business for labelling chemicals for supply, and compiling safety data sheets, the whole picture on the CLP Regulation and the Safety Data Sheet part of REACH, so that you understand all of the requirements of GHS in the EU and the UK.
Obviously, we’ll give you knowledge, that is what you need to do. And we’ll also help you understand why things work as they do, and how to do it, and how to do it quickly and accurately, using our proprietary system of manual classification forms, look up tables, decision flowcharts, checklists, infographics and screencasts.
So if you’re classifying substances or mixtures yourself using software, you’ll understand what’s going on inside the program, and when manual input may be needed.
Or if you’re importing products from outside the EU, you’ll be able to review the classification, labelling and safety data sheets you’ve been provided with, and make any changes you think are necessary.
And we keep our system up to date, so you know you’re doing things correctly!
This course is for you if you are:
We want to make sure that everyone who signs up is going to benefit directly in their day to day work.
What our students say about CLP Mastery:
“CLP Mastery is excellent, very thorough and thoughtfully put together. Just when I am trying to understand something you come up with an example that gives me a eureka moment. Although it is a serious subject, you do make it fun (I wasn’t aware that was possible) and enjoyable.” Dr John Smith, Aztec Oils, 3rd June 2020
“Janet has created a fantastic online course with modules surrounding CLP”. Lizi Jenkins, NextGen 360, 11th May 2020
And here’s Dr Karine Ellis of Colour Synthesis Solutions, our first trainee to complete CLP Mastery successfully by taking all of the quizzes for the modules relevant to her:
6th May 2020 “So, concerning the course, I am enjoying it , yes, I find it very interesting personally, to gain new knowledge on the rules and regulations…I am looking at SDS and labelling differently now…
So, we have gone through the modules, except Module 7. I am now doing the quizzes. I found that there are a good complement to the slides, I found that I usually don’t know the answers and need to go through the slides and additional documents again. And so, it is excellent practise. I found the mini-videos for Module 1 (Is your product legal) the ones that explains how to find the info on the websites was very useful.”
1st July 2020: “Good morning and thank you Janet! Just started Module 7… reading the tips for not getting overwhelmed about SDS was great, I feel much more relaxed in my role of compiler, and it made me understand it is OK not to know everything!”
13th August 2020: “Very proud of having completed the CLP Mastery course from TT Environmental“
We’re just thrilled for Karine!
She worked through CLP Mastery by taking every Wednesday afternoon to go through each module systematically, and has done everything online, so we know that moving our live training online has worked as we’d hoped (and even better, because you can cover more topics in more detail when you’re not under a time constraint).
Not only is Karine now classifying, labelling and compiling Safety Data Sheets much more confidently (and accurately), she’s done it in English, which is her second language. Very impressive!
How to tell if your product is a substance, mixture or article
Identifying your product under CLP:
Is your product or its component substances banned or restricted in any way
Does it have liabilities under other chemical regulations such as REACH, PIC etc
Gather published classifications for your product or its component substances
Choose which published classification(s) to use
Research data if there are no useable published classifications
Use the product’s chemistry to screen out potential physical hazards
Use physical and chemical tests to classify physical hazards
Use animal or in vitro test data, read across or modelling to classify health and environmental hazards
Applies to mixtures, or substances containing significant impurities
Use substance thresholds and algorithms for multiple substances to classify for health and environmental hazards
Take the classification, and use it to produce the labelling information
Lay out the CLP information on the label
Pack the product
Compile the Safety Data Sheet using classification and labelling information, and other safety data
Issue the Safety Data Sheet to current and previous customers
If you are making or importing a substance, notify it to the Classification & Labelling Inventory (unless REACH registered)
If you are making or importing a mixture, does it need Poison Centre notification?
What information may alter your product’s classification, where it comes from
When you need to update your product information
How to keep up to date with all the changes
You have 5 course maps to choose from:
This is a HUGE bonus!
It’s all of the classification system, the forms, decision documents, infographics etc in searchable format
Plus even more information than in the training course – dive even deeper!

You are not alone on this course, we’re here for you!
The CLP Mastery system really does work.
Here’s Stuart Hutton, EHS and Regulatory Affairs Manager at CPG Europe, who attended a live course in 2018:
“The context of the course has provided myself with the ability and competence to be able to relate this back to my organization and the software currently used to facilitate SDS formation; deciphering the complex algorithms of the software and how it establishes its conclusions.
Being able to produce the SDS the “old school” way (paper and pencil) I believe will stand be in good stead and is of particular importance in understanding the purpose and ultimately; potential consequences, of not being able to produce a compliant and relevant SDS.”
Victoria Pearson, owner of Innoscent Wax Melts (now Starfall Scents) also came on a live course in 2018 said in 2020 “I seriously can’t thank you enough. Coming on that course with you has been the single best business decision I’ve ever made! You can quote me!”
And Teresa Girasoli, formerly of FSi Ltd, who came on the first round of the Accountability Programme in Autumn 2020 said this:
“I was in charge of the Safety Data Sheet in my previous job. I had some basics knowledge on the matter, plus I learnt how to use a software. I had the feeling that the thing was much more complicated than that, and I started looking for a course. The SDS software house advised me to contact TT Environmental. It was the best advice ever. I discovered a world: not only I was able to perform my tasks and help my company since the first few minutes of videos, but I found out that I really like the regulatory affairs. This modular course makes you feel as though you’re taken by the hand and led deep into the very details of the CLP and REACh regulation. Janet accurately and kindly guides you through each step. The correction of the quizzes in the Zoom sessions is very helpful, I could really understand my mistakes and learn how to avoid them. Very recommended!!!”
The CLP Mastery Self Serve option is open every day, so you can purchase it today, or you can sign up for the VIP waiting list to be the first to learn when the next round of the Accountability Programme opens.
If you purchase CLP Mastery and find that it isn’t what you need, or you don’t like it, we will fully refund you during the first 30 days, no questions asked.
We want everybody who takes the course to be happy that it’s the right thing for them to do.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I get access straight away?
Yes, you get access to all the modules and bonuses immediately (except the Accountability Programme, if you sign up for this, you’ll get details of when the next round starts sent to you).
How long do I get access for?
CLP Mastery is like a 10 week course with 52 weeks of support.
You get full access for 1 year as a trainee.
After that, you can:
CLP changes so much every year that we couldn’t give “lifetime access” because we’d go out of business (which would mean we couldn’t help any more people).
Having the ongoing subscription allows us to keep our trainees as up to date as possible in the ever-changing world of chemical regulation.
Can I download the course material?
Yes you can, for your own use, for things you need for CLP compliance in your business.
We have the course in video, audio and pdf form, so you can choose which format(s) you’d like to use, and the audio and pdfs are downloadable.
There is a “fair use” policy covering all our intellectual property: the training videos, the forms and flowcharts, so please only download the items you actually need, and keep them private to yourself (and any colleagues who’ve also signed up to CLP Mastery).
Do you update the course?
Oh yes! We try to respond as quickly as we can to changes like new Substances of Very High Concern, or updates to CLP legislation, and we email everyone to let them know when it’s happened.
We also love suggestions on how we can improve, although some things may be impractical to implement.
If I have a question that crops up, how do I get it answered?
Just ask your question in the Facebook group, but remember other people can see this, so you may want to anonymise some information if it’s commercially sensitive.
If you’re not on Facebook, it’s easy to set up a log-in, and if you don’t want to do that, we’re happy to receive and answer questions by email but we will publish them in the group, so everyone can learn together. Questions answered by email may take longer than in the Facebook Group.
Trainees in the Accountability Programme can ask questions live every week on the Zoom call, or via the private Slack group as well.
If you’ve got a really important and business-sensitive question, there’s also the option of having a Quick Consultancy Call, which will get you full consultancy advice (see the link at the top of the page for more details).
Do I have to take all of the Modules?
Some of the Modules are mandatory, but others can be skipped, depending on what your product range covers.
We understand that not every part of the course may be relevant to your business, and it’s also important not to get overwhelmed by information.
So if your company is involved in R&D chemistry on novel substances, you may want to miss out the mixtures classification Module; or if you make mixtures, you may only want to do the physical hazards part of the substances classification Module.
This is why we have the Course Maps, so you can choose your route through CLP Mastery, and track your own progress.
Trainees on the Accountability Programme, can also miss out on any of the Modules which aren’t in their Course Map.
How long does it take to go through the course?
It depends on what you need to know about CLP compliance:
We recommend you use your course map, and do one of your modules a week. There are 10 modules, and the minimum number is likely to be 7.
Of course, the beauty of a self-service course is that you can go through as quickly or slowly as you like, or need.
And if you join us on the Accountability Programme, we will work through the whole course in 12 weeks (as we’ve a couple of “implementation weeks” to allow for people diving more deeply into topics, or catching up).
How much time will the Accountability Programme take?
As we’re currently working through the first round of the Accountability Programme, this is an estimate.
The Zoom calls themselves will be as long as they need, probably around half an hour, and longer if necessary.
Viewing the training videos for an individual module is an average of one and a half hours, although some are longer (one reason why we’ve got a couple of implementation weeks in the Accountability Programme).
Then you have to fill in the quiz for that module, and email it back – this may take half an hour or longer (particularly if you need to go back and review the training videos).
Overall, if you can set aside at least one afternoon per week, that should be enough time (although when we get to classification, labelling and SDSs, you may need to take more time).
The best approach, if you can arrange it, is probably to do the work straight after the zoom call on Wednesdays, while things are fresh in your mind.
Will you run the Accountability Programme again?
If this first round is successful, we will look at running the Accountability Programme again in 2021.
If you sign up to the Accountability Programme, you can attend every round which falls within your membership year.
How soon will I see results?
You should see results after each module, as soon as you start to do the work and implement what each module shows you to do.
You could just skip to the classification section, and do those plus the labelling section, and get up to speed in a couple of working days, but we don’t recommend it.
It’s much better to work through the modules one step at a time, we’ve designed it that way for a reason!
Do I get a certificate from taking this course?
Yes, you do get a certificate.
Each Module has a quiz, and when you complete it and send it through to us for checking and feedback, we’ll email you a pdf certificate.
This certificate is updated and reissued as you complete more Modules, and when you’ve gone through every Module in your Course Map, you get a printed certificate signed by us, and a goody bag of presents too!
If you are doing the course as a Self-Serve option, you can send in the quizzes any time, as you complete them.
On the Accountability Programme, you’ll be going through one module a week, and sending in the quiz for each module, so we can assess them all together and give you feedback in the next Zoom meeting, so the certificate will be issued at the end of the programme.
We know that not everybody needs to work through every Module, for example an R&D company making novel substances is unlikely to want to know about mixture classification, which is why our system is flexible.
Who is this course for?
CLP Mastery has been designed for people:
It may not be for you if:
Do I need to be a chemist or toxicologist to take this course?
Great question! Although CLP Mastery has been written by industrial chemists, primarily for industrial chemists, you don’t necessarily need to be one (or be a toxicologist either).
Ideally, you need GCSE Chemistry or Science as a minimum. If you’ve got A level Chemistry, or a relevant degree, even better. The course has been designed for people of a wide range of experiences and abilities.
We also point out where you may want to “ask a chemist”, if you aren’t one yourself.
You may want to come on the Accountability Programme, as you’ll get the chance to ask more questions and get more support.
We’ve trained many non-chemists to classify on our live course, and our system does work!
Does it help to be a nerd?
Ok, you’ve got me there! I’m definitely a nerd 🙂 !
What we’ve found is that it’s important to have a logical brain, and to do things consistently.
It’s no use having a degree in chemistry if you’re a scatterbrain whose mind jumps from one thing to the next, and you can’t focus properly.
On the other hand, some of our successful trainees are naturally logical and organised, even though they only did chemistry at school, and they can put together a good quality label and Safety Data Sheet easily using our system.
And it also helps if you love Excel! (oops, that’s the nerdy bit of me talking again).
You can also other spreadsheet packages, a calculator, or even pen and paper for the calculations. We’ll walk you through them all, in fact we’ve broken down the really complicated calculations into bite sized pieces, to make them as easy as possible.
Is the 30 day guarantee genuine?
Yes, it is, I stand behind the quality of my course 100%.
The course is for people who are, or who will be, involved in CLP compliance, and we try to ensure only people working in this area sign up.
However, sometimes people don’t “gel” with the training, and we’d rather refund than have people feel bad.
Important: the guarantee is only for 30 days. 1 minute after midnight on Day 31 is too late! (But we’ll email you a reminder beforehand).
If I join CLP Mastery, how do I sign up for the Accountability Programme?
It’s really easy – just choose the CLP Mastery with Accountability Programme option, and we’ll email you with the details of when the next round of the Accountability Programme is.
You’ll have immediate access to CLP Mastery on the self-serve option.
We’d love to have you join us!
If I sign up for the Accountability Programme but can't attend, then what?
We hope to be able to run the Accountability Programme again, possible two or three times a year.
As your CLP Mastery subscription is for a year, you should have the opportunity to participate again. Just let us know, so we can make sure you’re on the participant list.
Can I pay by invoice?
We’re happy to accept payment in full by invoice. Please email email@example.com to discuss.
Do you offer instalment payments?
We don’t, because we’re a small company, and it takes up too much admin time.
However, we do offer our 30 day money-back guarantee, in case you sign up and find that CLP Mastery isn’t for you.
My company won't pay for CLP Mastery, can I join anyway?
We usually deal with companies and self-employed people, but we understand that sometimes individuals want to invest in their own training.
We’d be happy to accept you on CLP Mastery, as long as you let us know before you sign up. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the details.
If I can't sign up to CLP Mastery straight away, will this page disappear?
This page, or a similar one (after the bonus period ends) is available from the front page of the GHS Classification Courses website at all times.
Why not go onto the front page and bookmark it? https://www.ghsclassificationcourses.com/
The website is open every day, so we’re here for when you’re ready to join us.
I need some help with CLP & SDSs but CLP Mastery isn't right for me at the moment, what other help do you provide?
We’ve got lots of ways to help you:
