There are a number of specific physical hazards from chemicals covered by CLP-GHS.  These are often described in combination with the physical form of the material, e.g. flammable aerosol, flammable gas, flammable solid etc.

These include:

  • Explosives
  • Desensitised explosives
  • Flammables: liquids and vapour, solids, gases, and chemically unstable and flammable gases
  • CLP-only flammables
  • Flammable and non-flammable aerosol
  • Oxidising gas, liquid and solid
  • Gases under pressure
  • Self-reactive hazards (heating may cause fire or explosion)
  • Organic peroxides
  • Pyrophoric hazards (fire-forming, that is liable to spontaneously ignite)
  • Self-heating hazards
  • Substances or mixtures in contact with water, releases flammable gases
  • CLP only – Substances or mixtures in contact with acids, release toxic gases
  • Corrosive to metal (mainly pH effects)
